Everything does always happen for a reason…
I went to lunch with a friend but did not finish my pasta (very rare). Debated on whether to take the leftovers home- had a day full of appointments so hesitated adding this bag to what I was already carrying around (video camera, ipad etc), plus it was not that tasty a dish to begin with. Decided to put it in my bag anyway for a possible snack at home.
Got on the subway and was distracted watching a video clip when a homeless man came on and started talking to everyone. I decided to listen to what he had to say. I expected him to ask for donations to help him eat – so I was surprised when he also asked for food.
As he walked in front of me, I thought of my still warm leftovers and said – “are you hungry?”. He nodded and I unzipped my bag, gave him the pasta. He smiled and thanked me.
Minutes later as I merged into the crowds of people hustling through Union Square station trying to catch their next train, I suddenly heard this loud voice saying “thank you”. I looked up and saw that somehow, this man had spotted me in the crowd. I saw him smiling, eating the pasta with his fingers and with a smile in my heart, I said “hope you like it..”
Before this happened, I was having one of those days where it seemed everything was going wrong- little things but happening in such succession that you wished the day would just be over already. After we crossed paths, I realized there was never anything to worry about – everything does always happen for a reason…
